Fellow 1510er,

It is with great sadness that I must notify our membership of Sam Shafer’s passing. Sam & Mary Shafer were original Hatteras 1510 members, joining our club in its infancy.

Known as “The Dean of The ICW” Sam, along with his Wife and Co-Captain/1st Mate of 50 years, Mary, made many – many trips up and down the Intercoastal Water Way from Annapolis to Florida. Both boating enthusiast also took their 53 on “The Great Loop” a few years back.

Owners of 2 - 53’ Hatteras Motor Yachts (a 1978 Classic and a 1984 ED) Sam was one of the more knowledgeable, informative and sharing members. If you had a question, Ask Sam!

Sam passed November 2, 2011 at Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore. Sam & Mary’s Daughter Carol conveyed to me that the family is doing well and, with the knowledge of everyone’s well wishes, they will endure and thank everyone in advance.

A flower arrangement has been sent in the name of all Hatteras 1510 Club Members.
